OpenAI is rolling out a new ChatGPT interface designed to make answers more visual and interactive. TechCrunch’s Lucas Ropek reported on October 7 that the feature, called Intelligent UI, arrives alongside GPT-6 and can place functional visual elements directly inside a conversation instead of relying primarily on blocks of text.

The company says those elements can include tappable buttons, editable graphs, interactive charts, and calculators created for a particular task. That makes the update different from merely decorating an answer with an illustration. In the examples OpenAI described, a user can work with the generated component, changing inputs or exploring information rather than only reading a static response.

Visual learning tools show airflow, bicycle mechanics, a recipe, a route, and savings.
OpenAI demonstrated task-specific visuals spanning science, cooking, travel, mechanics, and personal finance.

OpenAI presented Intelligent UI as a way to make difficult subjects easier to learn. During a briefing for journalists, company staff demonstrated the system generating diagrams and other visuals for abstract ideas. One example began with a request to explain how an airplane wing produces lift; ChatGPT responded with several diagrams intended to help show the forces involved.

The demonstrations extended beyond science. OpenAI showed visual material for recipes, an explanation of bicycle mechanics, a map for a multi-day hiking trip, and a personal-savings calculator. The range suggests that ChatGPT may choose different interface formats according to the task: a map for a route, a diagram for a mechanism, or a calculator when changing numbers matters.

A hand reduces visual elements from a busy answer to a calmer text-led layout.
Users will be able to reduce the number of visuals when they prefer a simpler ChatGPT response.

Aarush Selvan, an OpenAI product manager, told reporters that the service has historically been dominated by text even though many useful answers are better expressed in other forms. The company pointed to everyday planning, travel, cooking, and learning as situations where generated visuals could make the response easier to act on. The report does not establish how consistently ChatGPT will select the right visual form or whether every generated component will be accurate.

Users will have some control over the shift. Intelligent UI is customizable, and people who prefer fewer visual elements will be able to reduce how often they appear. That control may matter because an interactive answer can be useful for one task while adding clutter to another. OpenAI is therefore treating visual density as a preference rather than forcing the same presentation on every conversation.

The rollout begins globally with GPT-6 for Pro, Plus, Business, and Enterprise users. TechCrunch reports that free users and subscribers to the lower-cost Go tier are scheduled to receive Intelligent UI on Thursday. The change moves ChatGPT closer to generating small, purpose-built interfaces as part of an answer; its long-term value will depend on whether those interfaces make information clearer without making errors harder to notice.
