Apple’s fourth-generation Apple TV 4K will arrive November 13 with built-in microphones designed for hands-free access to Siri AI, according to an October 13 comparison published by Engadget. The new streaming box costs $299 and replaces the 2022 model after a four-year hardware gap.

The central software feature is not exclusive to the new device. Engadget reported that Siri AI will also come through an update to Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward, covering the 2021 and 2022 boxes. The home owner must have a compatible iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, and the assistant will launch in English across eight countries.

Built-in microphones and a newer processor distinguish the 2026 hardware from its predecessor.

What the 2026 model adds is a more direct way to reach that assistant. Three microphones built into the box are intended to hear requests over whatever is playing, eliminating the need to hold the voice button on the remote. The 2022 model lacks those microphones, so its Siri features still require the remote.

The internal hardware also moves from Apple’s A15 Bionic to the A19. Apple claims the newer chip is up to 50 percent faster for CPU work and twice as fast for graphics. Engadget said the box has double the memory and adds dedicated AV1 video decoding, which can help services deliver high-quality streams with less bandwidth.

Connectivity advances from Wi-Fi 6 to Wi-Fi 7 and from Bluetooth 5 to Bluetooth 6, while Thread support stays the same. A redesigned Siri Remote adds Precision Finding and can play a sound when misplaced. That locating feature requires a supported newer iPhone, but the remote itself works with every Apple TV 4K and the 2015 Apple TV HD.

Two streaming boxes balanced beneath a shared AI light and an abstract price tag.
Because recent older models also receive Siri AI, the upgrade decision rests largely on hardware conveniences.

The new model comes only with 128GB of storage and Ethernet. Its $299 price is $100 above the least expensive 2022 version after Apple’s summer price increase, or $50 above the prior 128GB Ethernet configuration. Both generations remain limited to 4K video at 60 frames per second and support Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos.

Apple is also expanding its home-audio configuration. Engadget reported that the new box can connect to four compatible HomePods for front-and-rear surround sound, provided the speakers are used in matching pairs. Earlier Apple TV 4K models support a two-speaker stereo pair instead.

The result is an unusual AI upgrade pitch: the newest hardware offers microphones that make the assistant ambient, but recent owners receive the assistant itself without buying another box. Engadget concluded that streaming alone may not justify the new price, while gaming, AV1 playback or frequent hands-free Siri use could change the calculation. A full review is still pending, so the practical performance difference remains untested.
