Anthropic is expanding its Claude for Startups program with a package designed to put its models inside both the daily operations and products of young companies. TechCrunch reported that the company announced the offer Tuesday as part of its San Francisco Tech Week event, presenting the program as a way to work more closely with founders and developers.

Qualifying startups can receive one year of Claude Team at no charge, with as many as five premium seats. Claude Team is Anthropic’s paid plan for groups, so the offer gives a small startup a shared workspace for employees rather than access limited to a single user. The program also includes $1,000 in Claude API credits for companies building software on Anthropic’s models.

The package extends beyond subscriptions and credits. TechCrunch reported that participating companies will receive access to Claude Marketplace, where they can create plug-ins for the service. They can also schedule virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team, adding direct technical guidance to the financial subsidy.

Eligibility is tied to a company’s age or recent financing. According to TechCrunch, a business can apply if it was founded within the past five years or received funding within the past two years. Interested companies must submit an application through the official Claude for Startups program page; the report did not describe automatic acceptance or promise that every applicant would qualify.

Anthropic said it created the program because it expects many people to encounter the benefits of AI through companies that build on top of foundation models, rather than through the models alone. That rationale puts founders and developers at the center of the company’s distribution strategy, while the mix of team seats and API credits supports two different uses: adopting Claude internally and incorporating it into customer-facing products.

The announced benefit is bounded rather than open-ended: the team subscription lasts one year, the group is capped at five premium seats, and the API allowance is fixed at $1,000. Even so, the combination gives eligible early-stage companies a lower-cost path to test Claude across workplace tasks, product development and plug-in creation while having access to Anthropic’s applied-AI staff.
